The 24-year-old singer was arrested for the second time in as many weeks on suspicion of drug offences. She turned herself in for questioning over a widely circulated video that appears to show her smoking drugs. Detectives interviewed her in an East London police station for nine hours.
Two weeks ago, the multi-Grammy winning artist was arrested on unrelated assault charges and released with a warning after admitting to slapping a man.
In a statement released Wednesday, Winehouse’s spokesperson explained, “Amy Winehouse voluntarily attended a London police station today by appointment. She was arrested in order to be interviewed and is co-operating fully with enquiries. The interview relates to a video handed to police earlier this year.”
The video in question was handed over to London police earlier this year by the English tabloid newspaper The Sun. In it, the songstress appears to be inhaling drugs from a glass pipe.
Although police did not confirm Winehouse was in custody, on Wednesday a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said, “Around 1 p.m. today a 24-year-old woman from the Camden area attended a London police station by arrangement and was arrested in connection with the alleged possession of a controlled drug.” On Thursday, police said the woman was released on bail until later this month pending further inquiries.
Winehouse has not been charged but is scheduled to go before a judge to answer to the charges later this month.
